Top-Rated Somerset Wedding Venues

Somerset is home to some of the most stunning wedding venues in the UK, including several wedding venues that are particular favourites to us, each offering a unique and memorable experience. With many top-rated venues such as Orchardleigh Estate, Elmhay Park, and Coombe Lodge, you’re spoilt for choice. Whether you’re looking for a grand banquet hall, rustic barn or an estate with it’s own deer park, these venues provide the perfect backdrop for your big day.

Orchardleigh Estate, Frome

Orchardleigh House

Orchardleigh Estate, a luxury wedding venue in Frome really has the wow factor. From the moment you enter the estate, you are blown away by the scale and grandness. Do you want to feel like you’re stepping into a fairytale? We think this could be the place for you! As recommend suppliers here, we offer a special discount for our wedding photography and film packages.

There is plenty of opportunity to customise your wedding here with pre-wedding dining the night before, honeymoon packages and various forms of accommodation. Transport can also be added on to your chosen package too. Choose from a vintage car, horse drawn carriage or even helicopter to transport you around the grounds. You can get married inside or out, or even in the estates very own romantic (and very ancient) church, set on an island.

There are way too many photo opportunities to list, but the back of the house is a very impressive backdrop for your group and family photos. We also love that you’ll more than likely bump into a wild peacock or deer roaming around the grounds.

Elmhay Park, Frome

Elmhay Park

We are regular visitors to this gorgeous venue. As recommend suppliers here, we offer a special discount off our wedding photography and film packages.

Part of the Orchardleigh Estate, this secluded wedding venue provides an elegant atmosphere with its formal Italian gardens and unique ceremony space which feels like it’s indoors, yet outdoors at the same time. The venue also offers:

  • A choice of accommodation for you and your guests, including staying the night before.
  • A covered outdoor ceremony space so you don’t have to worry about the weather.
  • A light and bright orangery for your wedding ceremony, reception and evening party.
  • A range of photo and film opportunities in the Italian gardens with it’s pergola and seating areas.

Coombe Lodge, Blagdon

Coombe Lodge

Coombe Lodge, nestled in the Mendip hills with wonderful views, is one of our favourites venues to work at. The main manor house is filled with history and charm with some gorgeous opulent features that give it the luxury feel. Its wood panelling, oak floors and feature windows also lend itself to a cosy winter wedding, whilst the light and bright ceremony room and bay windows make it feel spacious and airy. You can get married indoors or outdoors on the gorgeous terrace with tree backdrop.

It has a top end and luxury feel, similar to venues like St Audries park and Euridge manor. It’s welcoming and perfectly set out for a wedding day to flow. The venue’s 12 en-suite rooms including a bridal suite with roll top bath make it one of the most sought-after Somerset wedding venues and we understand why! It can cater for weddings of 50-200 guests and provides a dedicated wedding co-ordinator to help your day run perfectly.

Our favourite place for photos and videos is at the side of the house, with far reaching, gorgeous views. If you’re very lucky, you can catch the sunset and get that epic shot.

Enchanting Manor Houses

Magical manor houses like Brympton d’Evercy and Crowcombe Court also make Somerset famous and we absolutely love shooting at both of these venues. They offer a timeless and elegant backdrop for your special day, with stunning architecture, beautiful gardens, and luxurious accommodation. The food is pretty standout too (and we get to sample a lot of wedding food!).

Brympton d’Evercy

Brympton House

Brympton d’Evercy, an iconic manor house situated near Yeovil, is renowned for its beautiful grounds, lakes and a rich history that dates back to the 13th century. The venue offers a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a terrace, walled garden, and 33 acres of grounds. You have options to get married at the on site church, indoors or even outdoors overlooking the lake.

There’s ample accommodation for your weddings guests – the venue sleeps up to 72 people. The bridal suite deserves a special mention for its spaciousness and luxury decor. It’s really a pleasure to get ready here for your big day, and it can easily accommodate a large bridal party (it’s also a pleasure to photograph and film!).

After your wedding breakfast, you can cut your cake in the dedicated cake display room or in the foyer to make it a main event! Then you and your guests can make use of the dedicated party barn as you begin your evening celebrations and party the night away.

Crowcombe Court, Taunton

Crowcombe court

The moment we entered the gates of Crowcombe court, we noticed the stillness, the quiet, the birds chirping and the smell of the flowers. It was a wonderful first impression as we drove down the sweeping drive to see the spectacular house in front of us. This venue has so much going for it including:

  • Grand Palladian style architecture (think Downtown Abbey).
  • Indoor and outdoor ceremony options with a woodland backdrop.
  • Walled gardens, formal gardens and a terrace garden.
  • Exclusive use and peaceful location.
  • Onsite accommodation for 40 guests including a bridal suite and dedicated getting ready room.

We’ve shot both summer and winter weddings here and the venue lends itself to all seasons; cosy in the winter with fairy lights and log fires and plenty of outdoor spaces for entertaining and exploring during the warmer months. We also remember trying a particularly yummy trio of desserts, so can give the food a really big thumbs up too!

Rustic Charm: Barn Wedding Venues

Can you see yourself getting married in a barn? Obsessed with rustic cars, bunting and fairy lights? Maybe on the of the following venues could be perfect for you. Here’s two of our top Somerset barn wedding venues in the South West, which we work at regularly. We can offer you tips and advice on things like timings and best places to explore to get amazing wedding photos and films.

Priston Mill and Haselbury Mill offer a unique and memorable setting, blending historical character with modern facilities, custom made for weddings. They both have amazing stone work (we genuinely appreciate some good quality stonework) and lots of charm.

Priston Mill, Bath

Priston Mill

Surrounded by beautiful scenery and country side views, Priston Mill in Bath is a rustic and quaint barn venue. There are two gorgeous wedding venues to chose from; the watermill and the Tythe barn. We love working at both, they each offer a different feel and suit different size weddings (larger weddings at the the Tythe barn). There’s also the option to get married outside and we can tell you first hand, the setting is so picturesque. The walk down to the outdoor ceremony winds along the bank so you can really eek out that special revealing moment.

As well as lots as manicured gardens, a mini bridge, pergola and even the water mill wheel to use as your wedding backdrop, there is an extra special place for some fun and memorable photos and films… the adventure playground zip wire (optional of course)!

The smell of lavender when it’s blooming, is also incredible and something we always associate the mill with. The gardens are so pretty and listening to the bubbling brook whilst strolling around the grounds for your couples wedding photos and films is just so special!

Hazelbury Mill

Haselbury Mill, Crewkerne

Haselbury Mill, a picturesque mill venue in Crewkerne, perfectly blends historic charm with modern amenities. Situated in the peaceful Somerset countryside, Haselbury Mill features a river, a picturesque lake, and 14 acres of beautiful gardens.

The huge Tythe barn splits easily into two spaces: your dreamy ceremony space and your wedding reception space. This is a bonus, as it means you can move effortlessly from your ceremony to wedding breakfast, with no additional room set up. In the evening, you simply move back over to the ceremony side for your evening party. There are also lots of lovely outdoor spaces to enjoy too and we love the way the barn looks at night – the perfect silhouette shot!

The Georgian manor house provides accommodation on site, featuring a four poster bed bridal suite. You can also choose to get married outside under the pergola too – there’s just so many options here!

We love the peacefulness at Hazelbury Mill and the huge barn doors which makes for some dramatic shots, both daytime and night time.

Memorable Wedding Day Experiences

It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve photographed or filmed wedding days (or provided both) at these venues, each wedding is completely different. It’s all the little details that make your day unique and special to you. These venues have a variety of spaces to get married, to enjoy your wedding drinks and canapés and to take your photographs and films.

You can add on different options to truly customise your day and go to town on your decor. Will you chose fresh or artificial flowers? What colour palette are you thinking of? What entertainment, if any, will you provide for your guests? Maybe your venue will personalise a cocktail for your special day?

Speak to your dedicated wedding co-ordiantor and ask for advice and how much of your day can be adapted to suit you. You’ll be surprised at how flexible venues are nowadays – we’ve seen so many different types of weddings over the years. We are always happy to offer advice and give suggestions as well as recommending a range of wedding suppliers.

Maybe you’ll have an ice cream van, bouncy castle or mini golf games? Have you thought about a magician, a caricaturist or live singer to make your day a little different? Will your dog deliver your rings (such a cute idea)? Phew, let’s slow down before we get too carried away! We know there is so much that goes into planning a wedding… from the moment you say “yes” to the ring, to the moment you say “I do” to each other, and we are here to help in any way we can.

Wedding Packages and Services

You’re engaged!! Firstly, a huge congratulations, that’s amazing news!! Now you are literally bursting to book your dream wedding, but what’s the next step? Decide on roughly how many guests you would like to invite (both to the day and to your evening), and think about how you see yourself getting married. What sort of venue do you imagine yourself getting married in? What sort of vibe do you want? Next, contact some venues in your chosen area and ask for their wedding brochure. Check out the various packages and how they compare to each other. Be prepared to be flexible on dates, guest numbers and even catering options to bring your total price down.

Decide on what is a non-negotiable to you (we’re all different), and and see what you will compromise on. Perhaps, you definitely want a summer wedding, but would compromise on a weekend wedding, to a more budget friendly Monday – Thursday booking. Typically, the cheapest day to get married is on a Tuesday, but all weddings will be slightly different. We now capture weddings on all days of the week and school holidays. Even New Years eve is popular!. Things have changed in terms of days people are getting married on. If you can be flexible on the day you set, you’ll have more choice on your venue availability and save money.

Maybe you’ve set your heart of a venue, but need to reduce your daytime numbers to meet your budget, that just means you can invite even more friends and family to your evening celebrations when you pay a much smaller fee per head.

Narrow your venue choices down based on their availability, your budget and what’s especially important to you both. Do you mind if there is onsite accommodation, if the venue is exclusive use, or if you have the option to get married outside? What boxes do you need to tick? Sit down and make a list as a couple (over a glass of wine of course!).

Next, make an appointment to visit your venues in person for a tour, ideally during a similar season to the one that you’re thinking of booking. If this isn’t possible, ask your venues to provide some sample wedding galleries taken during your chosen season. Venues can change so much, depending on the time of year. A wedding in Spring will have very different wedding photo gallery, to say, one taking place during the Autumn. Not only does the weather, time of year and light affect the final style of your wedding photos, but the outside decor and flowers/trees will too. Be clear about what your vision is.

Ask lots of questions at your meeting and look at their google reviews from real life couples. A really important question is ask yourself, “can I imagine getting married here?” Most couples know, within 5 minutes of arriving at a venue, if it’s the one for them and it’s important to go with your gut feeling.

Make sure that everything else adds up in a practical way too, and if they do, then you’ve found the one!! Now the excitement really starts and your plans for ideas can really start moving forward. What’s the best step after booking your venue? Yep, that’s right, booking you wedding photographer and videographer. Without the long lasting memories, it’s just a single incredible day. We’d love to help you remember your wedding day always – to watch it, to re-live it and to share it with your friends and families.

Summary

After all the time, effort, energy and not mention money, you’ve invested into your big day, the one thing we would advise you not to cut costs on is your… can you guess? Yes, your wedding photographer and videographer. These are the only physical memories you’ll be left with (apart from maybe your cake topper), so it’s so important to preserve and capture everything to enjoy forever.

If you see wedding videographer as a luxury, may we say, it could be the best decision you make regarding your wedding! After the excitement has died down, you will still be able to re-live your day, the emotions, the laughter, the voices, the love, again and again! Our fantastic combined wedding photography and videography packages offer a way to include both types of coverage on your day for a discounted rate instead of booking with two separate vendors.

Remember there are no rules for YOUR wedding, don’t get caught up on what your should or shouldn’t do. This day is the only day that it’s 100% all about you, so do it your way and enjoy EVERY.SINGLE.MOMENT!

We’d love to be on that journey with you….Jodie & Tracey xx
