The History of Coombe Lodge

Coombe Lodge is an idyllic wedding venue nestled in the tranquil village of Blagdon in Somerset, United Kingdom. Known for its breathtaking views of the Mendip Hills, this iconic venue was originally constructed in 1932 by Sir Frederick Wills, a member of the influential Wills tobacco family from Bristol. Designed by English architect Sir George Oatley, the lodge was intended to serve as a family home. However, during World War II, it was commandeered by the Government to serve as part of nearby Norton Manor Camp until the cessation of hostilities. Later, it was converted into a science college in the 1950s before ultimately being transformed into its current incarnation as a wedding venue. Today, Coombe Lodge retains its historic charm while offering modern amenities, featuring spacious rooms, stunning landscaped gardens, and an elegant ambiance. Despite its various transitions, the lodge has consistently been a key part of Blagdon’s history, creating an elegant historical tapestry entwined with the region’s evolution and development.
